The Creation of Cushion Cosies

Hi All!

As you may have read in my "About the Owner" blurb, my name is Colleen or "Coco" and I recently created the idea of Cushion Cosies in my own little cozy studio apartment. I had been feeling discouraged and very tired of the monotony created by the COVID pandemic. I'm sure that many of you can relate, and I hope you have been able to find some small hobbies to occupy your time and mind as well. 

I had worked in retail for many years, but felt that I wasn't able to exercise the skills that I had to offer, and therefore decided to part ways with my supervisory position. While I was able to secure a freelance job doing Digital Media Management, I still found that I was lacking the feeling of self satisfaction. I have always aspired to be my own boss one day, but couldn't decide what to focus my entrepreneurial sights on. 

While wracking my brains one night, I felt that I had had an epiphany. I immediately texted my Mom, my self-titled "biggest cheerleader" to see if I might actually be onto something. When I introduced the idea of selling fun, custom-made throw cushion covers, she seemed to be fond of the idea and wanted to know more details. That was good enough for me!

I set out two days later, unsure of what I was even looking to buy, but returned home with a new sewing machine and 4 yards of fabric. I made many rookie mistakes, and used youtube to teach myself the basics of sewing two squares together. How hard could it be? (VERY hard). But my idea was finally coming together, and I couldn't be more proud. With the help of my ever-patient boyfriend, Jimmy, I was encouraged to continue building on my skills.
